Does anyone believe there are domains worth £1,000 + not yet registered, or do you think with the introduction of specialist software and online tools the chances of these are remote? (excluding domains that drop)

I'm sure they are out there, you just have to think of them. New technologies are coming along all the time, so if you can see the opportunity first, you can have a valuable domain.

loads left, and loads that will continue to appear based on new tech, trends, fashions etc. It's a big old pot! You just gotta be quick. :)

eg. I just registered economiccrash,co,uk the other day. With the banking system on the verge of melt down, who knows what will happen, and that domain could be valuable. 3dprintingservices is anothe rone for the future that I got the other day.

I agree. Who would have thought to buy domains with 'wii' in it until recently?

I think the days of using dictionaries have gone. It's now about 'adjective/noun' combos and keeping up to date with current events and new products, services, technologies and trends.

So watching the news and stimulating your imagination is the best way forward now to get killer domains at reg cost (oh, and being quick of course!).

Here is a useful tip for you. There are some tools which sort through RSS feeds and news and filter the new terms. I believe are some people using these software and registering.com names.

Indeed. I regularly note down new technologies or phrases I have heard for the first time and look them up. I normally find that they are registered already but last week I picked up biofuelpellets.co.uk (and the singular) after reading about the new(ish) technology. It may or may not be worth the punt but if a change in government policy made these popular my reg fees were not wasted. The technology itself doesn't seem to be viable but some alternate energy sources have become fashionable even though they are not really practical.

I've rambled a bit... my point is that there are new words dropping in to our language all the time, be it fashion or technology. Just think of some of the words you use without thought that were not in our everyday language ten years ago, broadband for example.

Good point.

Listening to the radio at the weekend, they mentioned about the introduction of 'QR Code' compatible mobile phones into the UK on Monday just gone. Of the possibilities for different perms, qr-codes.co.uk was still available. I slept on the matter, then found someone had registered it by Tuesday.

Like you said, there are new phrases coming out all the time!

I heard the phrase "videocalling" a few years ago (I think it was when the 3g licences were being bid for) and decided to register videocalling.co.uk

I wasn't really into domans at the time and never really developed it in fact I don't even know what my intention was when I bought it!. However it is the concept I'm referring to rather than the success of the domain itself which is still on my to do list.

agreed; but there's always a call to make - should I or shouldn't I? :)

Which is how I end up with such interesting domains as "smexting" (texting whilst having a fag - a new thing now that everyone has to go outside. Maybe I should have left that one...

as a follow up, and to emphasis the point that it's not all about droplists, I present:

bluetonguedisease.co.uk
nationalbuspass.co.uk
generaldiploma.co.uk

All are in the news, and may or may not get traffic, value etc. but they might...

Every so often you will come across good domains that arnt registered and have it away!

Ive bought a few Urban type slang words for clothing, shoes etc and managed to turn my reg fee into high £xxx - low £xxxx in a matter of weeks just by emailing and ringing end users.

Just keep brainstorming!

I like this thread!

I'm new at this domaining and made a decision to go for the enduser market rather than resellers. At first I was disheartened because all the good pronounceble words seem to have gone. However, I've been brainstorming this past few days and these are what I came up with. Many are not good for type-in traffic or search results but they are brandable and have good potential for the right buyer.

I was intrigued by Fabulous.com (obviously typeins weren't important to them) so went for similar words - naturally they'd all gone. I got creative here and remembered that old song that contracted "it's wonderful, it's marvellous...." in a way many people actually pronounce it. Unfortunately sWonderful.com was taken, but I got sMarvellous.com, sAwfulNice.com and sParadise.co.uk. I was on a roll then and bagged sImpossible.co.uk which I figured would be excellent for some type of 'positive thinking' business ala The Secret.

More mundane ones I came up with in the last couple of days a few of which might reach $1000 if marketed properly:

GroovyGizmos.com
HotWidgets.co.uk
LayLadyLay.co.uk
(porn or lingerie?)
PremiumBoats.co.uk
VacantPlots.co.uk
(could be general land, or burial plots)
MisterOpportunity.co.uk (biz opp seller?)
LastFarewell.co.uk (funerals, memorials?)
OnTheRazz (On The Razzle was taken but it's often shortened anyway, so has meaning. Suitable for some sort of site about entertainment, theatre etc)
MissYoo.co.uk (site like Friends Reunited?)
DeeplyJuicy.com (big fruit producer like Del Monte?)

I got a few by using anagram sites. For instance: anagram in Spanish is apparently anagrama - an anagram of which is amar gana - which means "Love Wins". Both of those words were taken, but I was able to get amargana.com which might be suitable for a big spanish dating site. If you look at the sales lists, spanish and german terms have been selling for big bucks.

Last night I picked up MyNoseJob.co.uk and apparently people do search for various terms with 'nose job' in.

I was also looking at phonetic spellings and choonful.com resulted. Nearly got the double L but decided it was more natural with just the one. Of course I tried the obvious ones like MyChoons first. They were taken alas. Still, that's a good catchy name for a ringtone, mp3 or any music type business and it's one word which is even better.

I like slang phrases too but they'll likely only do well in UK market for these:
InsureYourWheels.com (I'm building a site for car/motorcycle insurance)
InsureYourGaff.com (home insurance)

Heh if anyone knows a rich lawyer called Nick I have NickTheBrief.com Total indulgence that one, I was just getting inspired, and it was the name of a racehorse I liked. I'll probaby hang onto that for a few years and who knows. Someone just paid big bucks for MichaelOniell, so guess you just have to wait for the right buyer. :)

I could be wrong but I think my best ones will be these 2:

hoars.co.uk I was just looking for something short and snappy in the porn industry as good names are in short supply there. Phonetically it sounds identical and it's not offensive, but only afterwards did I find that many people do think it's spelt like that so it'll get some typeins!

But my 'prize' is PawnIT.co.uk. Loads of searches for pawn and pawn shops/brokers, and it's getting to be a very big business. Pity I couldn't get the dot com as the overture results were way higher. Pawning will expand further when the predicted recession gets here. I think this is a much better name than just pawn - the latter sounds too much like 'porn'. I have big hopes for this one, and it came to me from when the word pawn appeared in an anagram phrase. I now try various words with IT after, or find words to put before them.

Came up with others that are 'keyword' related but they are boring .biz and .orgs and while they might possibly stretch to $1000 it'll likely only be on developed sites. I think good catchy names are more important for businesses and they are getting harder to find. But it's not impossible with a bit of brainstorming. The problem then becomes marketing them!

Lots of domainers would think my names crap because of lack of searchability, but then 'atomica.com' and 'hoo.com' didn't appear to find that a handicap to big sales prices. :)

There have to still be some big money domains out there, as technology and fashion are constantly in flux.

I just picked up http://www.wavetopay.co.uk and http://www.wave2pay.co.uk as I saw a bank had just released a credit card that combines with an Oyster card.

Surely some other banks will eventually do the same. Speculaitve, but as the says..."He who daes...."
