rather than the placement of AdSense & similar. I've been thinking about approaching potential advertisers direct,

Are you aware of Affiliate Networks ? if not type affiliate into google

heres one to start you off Affiliate Network - Affiliate Window

what you must realize is that with ad sense you get paid per click but with affiliate networks you mostly only get paid if the customer follows through on a specific action ( signs up, buys somthing ect )

hope this helps

John

Hey all,

I have a few mini sites that would be better served by banners etc from specific companies, rather than the placement of AdSense & similar. I've been thinking about approaching potential advertisers direct, but frankly have little idea of how to get the ball rolling. Of course I could just fire off a few eMails, but I get the impression there's a little more to it than that.

Since I'm sure many others are in a similar position, I wondered if anyone with experience could share some of their knowledge of how to approach this. I'm sure it would be very easy to mis-step and end any chance of securing an ad, so any idea as to possible pitfalls would be welcome.

Thanks,
Mike.

Agreed, try joining some affiliate marketing networks. There are plenty of them and they're bound to have something relevant.

I'll add to this that paid banner placement can also be a good revenue stream. I have had a few companies approach me and pay for a banner on my sites. If you are going to approach them, just make sure you can demonstrate traffic levels and search engine position and I expect you will gain some interest.

Thanks, both of you, for you replies.

I've been aware of Affiliate networks for awhile but have always held off till I had time to research. Since I probably never will, I might take a look now. ;-)

Really my question was more about approaching advertisers direct. Having the relevant figures to hand is good advice: thanks again. Now the key thing is to word the contact so I don't look like a spammer...
