I think I've mentioned Hacker News before, I'm a developer by trade so I like the idea of creating apps as much as I do domains so I follow it quite regularly.

A while ago this fella asked hacker news for a review of his new webapp http://awesomenessreminders.com. I thought it was a bit of jokey type website that he'd knocked up and didn't expect to make any money: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1616154

Now I've just read a thread saying he has 750+ paying subscribers! http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1677645

I'm sure he's got to be careful with regards to how quickly the numbers might escalate, but the cost of calls wont be that much and hiring people to make the calls wont be that expensive? I also think the churn rate would be very high, so at some point the site will find a natural balance and he wont have to hire any more staff etc. Just hope I have an idea like that someday.

Who needs that service, just look in the mirror and say to yourself, you're awsome, free as well haha

I think someone commented that they'd made a recording on their phone along the same lines, made them chuckle every time they listened to it!

Great idea for our cheeseball American cousins, but I couldn't see it becoming popular over here. Perhaps if the caller rang and told me in a Texas twang I was a lowlife piece of horsesh*t and that he'd had carnal relations with my Krispy Kreme donut munchin momma...well, then I might smile :-)
