Bass or guitar

My mate is a bass player and got me playing some tunes on it and I took a liking to it, I love the sound of bass however I am thinking it would be better to learn guitar instead ?

I have no intention of being in a band but can write my own songs so should I go with bass or guitar ?

Go with the guitar, you can then swap between guitar & bass. If you want to write songs, then the guitar is likely to be more flexible (you don't often see a singer songwriter playing a bass!)

My head is telling me guitar, it does seem more flexible and bass is kind of a second instrument if you know what I mean ?

Simple answer - if you can play a guitar then you can easily play bass but if you can play bass you can't play a guitar. (Tip No. 1 from me, former Uni band lead guitar

)

How many bass players does it take to change a light bulb?
One, but the guitar player has to show him how to do it.

Definately guitar, been playing electric guitar for about 7 years now (just for fun) and its a great way to relax. When I'm building a site I usually spend a few hours working then have an hour to wind down learning a few songs etc. I know quite a few of the RHCP's songs, but need to start learning some new stuff. I'm thinking about buying an acoustic guitar this summer once I finish uni, but having played electric, acoustic is something very different.

Yes a big difference mate between acoustic and electro, nice to take an acoustic to the park or something though hey, buy an electro/acoustic

Definitely a big difference, I went to a shop last month in Newcastle and spent a few hours playing around on a huge selection of guitars to see if one took my fancy. I found them fairly difficult to play, especially as I have an Ibanez S470 which is a very thin guitar, so completely different to acoustic. Anyway there was one exception that felt perfect, sounded perfect, looked perfect, but was 3k

The hunt continues, but I agree that electro-acoustic is probably the way forward, and something a little cheaper.

Edit: if you're looking for guitars the Ibanez S470 is the nicest electric guitar I've ever played so worth trying it out at a guitar shop. It's thin (which I like, but other may not), and plays amazingly. I've had this one about 5 years and I can't see myself ever playing anything else. Maybe a little pricy for a beginner, but for anyone upgrading from their first guitar it's not too badly priced.

Guitar 1st then base can follow, Paul McCartney played the base for the beatles and wrote some pretty good songs lol, but he learned the guitar first.

Love it mate, I scrapped all my sites and I am now deving one, monetising it and then moving onto the next once a revenue is established, it's slow but better just like something else in life
