If your using Word Press that's a helps. Put the link on another active site to start with and you'll find with WP if you post daily Google quickly picks up on new posts and gets them indexed pretty quick.

Post the URL here and i'll add it to the footer of a few of my sites that are on the same sort of lines for a few days.

I always run my new blogs through Ping-o-Matic! too

Oh, and register with http://www.mybloglog.com/, get the widget going on your site, and search on mybloglog for other similar sites etc... become a fan, join some communities, say hi etc. Its worth the hour or so work.

get on blog catalogue, start building one way links on your blogs using relevant forums.
Also, SEO your site with title, meta tags, h1..h6 tags as so on.

I'm also using pingomatic and mybloglog for my blog's promotion. Aside from these sites, you can also join in BlogCatalog and also get their widget and put it on your blog.
