Book recommendations

I've never been one for books, just haven't found the time, but I got engrossed in a book recently and am hooked; I now need some recommendations on books that have really struck a cord with you (perhaps had a profound influence on you); relating to business, web, investing etc. Ideally need to be books published (or revised editions) in the last couple of years so they are still relevant in today's market. Nothing too deep, I need to train my brain to understand complex reads again, so wish to take it slow in order to keep interested.

I can certainly recommend Millionaire Teacher by Andrew Hallam for a very basic overview of the financial sector and investing in particular.

I can recommend Gustav Le Bon's "The Crowd". It was given to me from a forex analyst when I asked him about trends and what shapes them.

+1 for Predictably Irrational as suggested by @Edwin

Freakonomics makes you consider "markets" differently. I like the podcast too.

The books by Malcolm Gladwell are more psychology than business but I've enjoyed them (not yet read David & Goliath).

A really quick read is Anything You Want by Derek Sivers - a web entrepreneur who has a good outlook on life.

Malcolm Gladwell is "ok" but he doesn't half stretch out a 1-chapter idea to a 250 page book... Once you "get it" all the rest is just examples and anecdotes, which can be fun but add nothing to the central idea in each of his books. I gave up on him after 3 books for just that reason.

OMG, if you have kids in school, this is a book to read, even though it was written in 2006 ! it is sooooooooo true, imo, this book totally changed the way i interact with my 2 kids.

thankfully i read it @ 6 years ago when they were young ( 3 and 5)

its sooooo on the money its not funny

I want recommend 'The Nothing' by Hanif Kureishi. I'm not really into literary fiction but there are some good bits in this book. It's about becoming an old fart really, who has a fantasy of cuckolding.. “One night, when I am old, sick, right out of semen, and don’t need things to get any worse, I hear the noises again,”.

Not the most uplifting book...I'll probably go back to my Warhammer now.

Both made me think profoundly (well, briefly anyway) as well as being highly entertaining reads.
