Has anyone tried and succeeded (or failed) to purchase a domain from a council?

Any tips would be appreciated!

Cheers. :)

1-1

Finding someone who had the authority or even a clue what you are on about will be 95% of the problem. More so if the IT for the council is out-sourced.

Fire off a few email and hope but to really get an answer either pop down there or pick up the phone and make some calls. There is normally a website feedback link on the site, use that as your first port of call.

hi,

you try using the freedom of information act at your local council, let them track down the right person. Only need to send one email then!

try typing into google "FOI" then, your council name, to get the correct email address.

good luck

Hi Phili

Dundee.com is owned by the council
and there is a few others up north but the council dont sell.

Newcastle.com is also owned by council

Newcastle.com is also owned by council

I had spotted Newcastle.com, but the domain I am after is far smaller and not of large value, so hoping it may be less of a problem for the council to dispose of - in fact I am not sure why they own it in the first place.

If I ever get anywhere with it I'll post again, bu I won't hold my breath.
