Useful to buyers of older cars. There is a free DVLA service which provides MOT history since 2005 for most vehicles. The info available includes PASS or FAIL along with and noted defects, and recorded mileage at each Test,

I just bought a clean ten year old car and found this info very handy. For £20 or less you can also get an HPI report with more details, including outstanding finance and insurance total loss record.

Yep it is also very useful as the advisories since the owner has had the car can be an indication of how the car has been treated as well as problems that might be just around the corner. Loads of people say their car is perfect, yet the latest MOT reveals some lovely gems.

I have a car for which the records show, as an advisory, that the air freshener hanging from the interior mirror was considered over-sized and an obstruction to the driver's vision. The tester had got two cars mixed up, and was very apologetic, but said it couldn't be corrected.

I'm more concerned that this may be a reflection upon me than on the car !!
