I'm thinking about making a car parts site for somebody that I know as a favour/experience, and just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a Wordpress theme that would be good for this type of thing.

As well as this, I'm still not sure if they want car parts on the site with the option of paying online, but if they did how hard would it be to do?

Thanks.

If it's a business selling car parts they'll most likely want an ecommerce site to list all their products. So wp might not be best for this.

Yeah more than likely, I'm not sure yet though.

I'd prefer sticking to Wordpress but I'm willing to try new things too.

Wordpress is as powerful as the developer behind the project and know that Wordpress is more than enough for an online shop.

You just need to find the right theme/shop and think about what it needs to do.

  • Shipping prices
  • Quantities
  • Sizes
  • Discounts

etc
BaytreeImage.co.uk

This is one I developed, very basic, has a few permutations and was from the Theme "Shopper Press"

Another I'm still developing HullCoupons.co.uk same theme (which has quite a few styles and twist included.

It includes a range of payment gateways portals to use including PayPal and SagePay both of which worked a treat.

My advice, get as far as you can making notes of what you "would like" it to do, look like, function as and then pay a developer to tweak the final bits.

Otherwise Magento is the big boy to tackle and is a right bitch of a CMS for shops IMO ;)

Shout if you need advise, help or a freindly comment.

Really appreciate that, especially some examples of what you've done. Going to take a look at Shopper Press now :)

Should know within the next week or so whether I'll be making the site or not :)

If they do want an ecommerce site then look for something like Magento that is made for ecommerce!

I have recently had a client with a wp store that relied on about 15 plugins to work, one updated and was incompatable with the rest so his site slowly died!

Nick - That's true.

Anyway, I've spent a bit of time taking a look at Shopper Press and I actually really like it :) They even have a car based theme too.

The only thing that's I'm still wondering is: What if they don't want to accept payments online etc? He could just want to display a price and tell customers to contact him or whatever to purchase them. Is that possible to do with Shopper Press or is that defeating its purpose?

If I do go ahead with it I'll probably make one or two Amazon type sites with Shopper Press too, looks good :)

you can do that with shopperpress easily.

funny you post this because I made a car parts site for a client using shopperpress just a few months ago. I found it to be a very good wordpress add-on, it should be even better now im sure its been updated a few times since I used it.
