Well, they may not be the very cheapest, but Heart Internet seem quite cheap, and the service has been fine for me.

If you are seriously wanting to be a domainer, join Nominet, not only do you get domains at the registry cost price you can manage the domains yourself bypassing the frequent issues you see (registrar XYZ has screwed up my domains is the usual post title).
