Have contacted both final bidders and they will make final offers privately.

Best offer wins. Not ideal, but should resolve this impasse.

Will take more care over defining the rules if I ever sell a domain by auction again.

To be honest - I don't think it should be about the person with the deepest pockets! Philip's way may be the best though now this has gone on so long although I would have sold to who had the final bid in the given time frame.

Going back to the bid process, if the domain was wanted badly enough then whoever wanted it should have bid accordingly and noted the rules of the thread.

I don't think it is a stretch to far to also assume that the forum time is the time you go by rather than your own - however good your timekeeping is.

If you didn't want to risk being too late - then don't bid at 10.59 and 30 secs... for a 11.00 deadline unless you like gambling!

It's the same with Ebay - if you think you can bid at 10.59:30 and always get the winning bid that ends at 11 - then you are ignoring a whole load of factors that can go against you.

I have nothing personal against any of the bidders - but ground rules should be ground rules - not who happens to have more cash.

Just my 2p and a rant for a bad Wed am.

Probably better to just say 1 post per person, post your highest offer by 1pm. Then there's no guzumping etc... and everyone had a fair opportunity to put their best bid forward. imho.
