Wanted: Domain Appraisal clouded.co.uk

Any thoughts on potential value of clouded.co.uk? A nice brandable name, obviously looking at "the cloud" industry. One of the few decent single word domains around the word "cloud".

I think it's going to be tricky finding a buyer at the moment mainly because some recent industry studies have shown that companies should focus on their own brandable cloud solutions instead of relying on the word 'cloud'

It's interesting stuff PoshTiger, but I seriously can't see how on earth "the cloud" is going to evaporate any time soon from the public's conscious. I agree with your last paragraph in the post, it's basically the accepted term for this kind of IT service for millions of people now. With behemoths like Apple (iCloud) and BSkyB (thecloud.net) and others using the term, there is no chance whatsoever that "industry insiders" are going to successfully phase the term out.

Then again I guess I would say that, considering I own a relevant domain

Well I own CloudComputing.org.uk so I'm in the same boat as you, but there's no point in ignoring reality...

A similar study from MS also said the same thing... and I believe it.

If you look at say xero which is the market leader in cloud based accountancy software - there's no mention of the word Cloud on the homepage, just 'online accountancy software' and they're pushing the brand.

I agree with PoshTiger. The 'cloud' as a concept and for practical computing applications is real enough with some great benefits both here now and more to come. The problem for 'Cloud' domains is that it is not a 'Users' usage term - it's purely a 'providers' term in the main.

Sure it has some 'high-profile' references in most peoples usage at the moment, purely because people are getting use to the idea of their future devices being purely terminals to 'Cloud computing' BUT, I would compare the word 'Cloud' as similar to the past an now archaic term 'ON-LINE' i.e. its relevance as a means of provision is not really relevant to the end-user today.

Similar to the old day references to main-frame computing as well

your domain "Clouded" doesn't really tap into the providers market either. - I'm sorry to say. It's really quite a negative term meaning 'Not-Clear'. I can't see any Company wanting that kind of double-play in a term they would use

I agree the definition kills its chances of a sale to the cloud industry ... but you never know!
