Also, if I want to register a new domain, should I also get the .uk if I'm realistic about selling it, or will a good quality .co.uk sell off its own merits?! Thanks!
If the .uk is still FTR and the .co.uk has good interest.... reg the .uk!
A lot of debate about .co.uk / .uk .. it'll come out in the wash by 2020...
I'd suggest getting the 'pair' if you can... personally I believe .uk will be the eventual winner, but that's a few years away yet.
As seen on DL today... the .co.uk achieved a higher price.... but that might be because other bidders were put off the .uk by the winner getting the .co.uk first... so is probably misrepresentative.

Thanks, that's good advice. I saw that on DL today actually, and I noticed that it was the same person who bought them both! I have a few .co.uk only domains that I'm ready to list on DL, and I'm to-ing fro-ing over whether it's worth registering the .uk as well, or whether this would be unnecessary expense.
Agreed with martin-s, if the .uk isn't registered, then the .co.uk probably isn't worth it either! If this question is brought about by the 'rackets' sale today, then note the .uk was registered, just to another owner when they both dropped, it wasn't left unregistered, nor would have been.
Alright thanks fellas for being so helpful- on reflection, the couple of quid for the .uk is definitely worth it for my decent .co.uk domains, and for the couple that I'm not too sure about, it would cost me more in unsold fees!
So they are pretty recent registrations ( If the.uk Is free) that should tell you a lot
So these 'I assume' are all hand-registrations - that the market didn't pick-up. My advice would be 'Don't Be Foolish' and over-stretch your imagination - If you've found more than one lucky pick-up (they can be had) your fooling yourself. that's unless you've got 50 hours a week to waste and know what counts
That's double OUCH then - You don't sound like you've found your domain feet to me. It does take about 5 to 10 years concentration 'realistically' to make it half worth while
