I believe the rules on DomainLore do state that the buyer is required to cover the PayPal fees and not the seller, so I don't get why people don't have it listed as an option.

I've had a couple via PP where buyers won't/refuse to pay the fee.

Don't have BACS (UK bank account).

Accepting credit card payment is just a cost in doing business. If my participation had pushed the bidding up another £250-£300 whats the reluctance in incurring ~4%. Anyway I offer to pay fees.

It's against Paypal terms to publicly request their fees to be paid.

Same here, been a lot lately that have not accepted Paypal as a payment option on domains I would have bid on.

Aaron, this is what it says on Domainlore with regards to PayPal payments:

When sending payments to sellers, buyers do not pay BACs or Paypal fees. Paypal recipient (seller) fees should not be requested from the buyer (Paypal`s MassPay is now charging 2% fee, so is no longer a good substitution for buyers).
When sending payments to sellers who do not accept payments via BACs and/or Paypal and only offer 'EU/international' payment option, it is a responsibility of the buyer to cover wire transfer fees, so the seller receives the exact amount the domain name was sold for.

Same here, I don't have a UK bank account, I always used to send PayPal payments as a gift until PayPal warned me about doing that several months ago, I now stick 4% extra on top of anything I pay to someone to cover PayPal fees.

It's a default option, that is you can't remove it when listing. A big rigmarole, but you're right.

I still wouldn't bid on <£1K buys. Paypal or not interested.

I don’t mind auctions but does p me off if after you buy it they want extra. Its fine to charge buyers premium, auctioneers fees, payment fees etc but state at the start not after its finished no auctions I have ever bought from doesn’t tell you at the beginning granted the print might be mighty small though

escrow are offering to do deals in different currencies, not just $, from end of this year early next year I have been told by them
long overdue

99% of buyers, probably more, for .uk domains are from uk
so bacs is never normally a problem

paypal fees are significant and there are a few buyers who are still old scholl and offer to pay fees
but lots of buyers on domainlore don't and you can't ask
so blame the 'new breed' who don't know the score

bottomline if it's xxx paypal is an option and would like people to pay fees although rarely do now
if x,xxx range it's bacs, of course

if a wellknown trustworthy buyer like you foz, just send a pm if one of mine or another member of acorn, and as long as fees paid I'm sure noone will have a problem with being paypal

In my day to day business we have received enquiries from Nigeria intending to pay £10,000 - £20,000 by Paypal or Credit Card.

We had the full option to decline the sale or force suspicious buyers to use more secure payment methods.

If you didn't want to miss out in future and aren't prepared to contact the sellers to see if they would accept Paypal from yourself I would recommend HIFX.

So your argument is based on fear, what could happen....

Its others that have brought up the cost argument. I have no issues incurring small charges on domain sales.

Would never use Paypal for £10K-£20K transactions, wire transfers for that.

DomainLore does not have a contact the buyer function to ask questions. Some of the listings don't promote themselves on Acorn. So clueless as to who they are.

Perhaps DomainLore could consider Paypal *verified only?

Paypal verified means that the buyer has been vetted by Paypals security system. They make a small charge on your credit card with a reference number. You then look up that reference number on your bank statement and submit it to Paypal's website for confirmation.

Would sellers be comfortable with Paypal *verified? or is the 'cost' the real issue here?
