I definitely expected it to go for a bit more than that. Difficult to get ranked for though I should imagine, which might have put some people off.

Only 12,000 uniques a month, a .org.uk and plenty competition...

I think the price it went for was way more realistic than the £4k it was listed for here.

I have to agree. And there are a handful of widely used alternative terms. I honestly think most individuals at Acorn were politely "biting their tongue" than make any negative comments while a domain auction is in process.

The comparison to the "cameras.orguk" sale that was made - was a way overstretch imho - Still a nice sale

I think the sale illustrated a lot of the things that make outsiders think domain sales are a bit of a joke... the seller himself repeatedly slashes the price from 4k all the way down to 1k in the space of a week. People will be thinking if its worth 1k why was it listed for 4k in the first place.... then to top it all off its allowed to go for < 10% of the original asking price.

I can't think of any other product that would be reduced in such a manner, unless it was something like a holiday package leaving on a specific date, or food which was about to go out of date :)

As the seller though, you have to offer at a high price first. You never know who is out there looking to buy, so if you don't do it, you could lose a lot of money.

I think the seller did a reasonable job of marketing his domain, as it was quite "visible" on the forum. He got my attention anyway. If I was him, I would have Tweeted the auction in real time too.

Rgds

Sure, but I wouldn't have went from 4k to under 10 percent of that in what 10 days?
