Do people STILL think .uk will have its day?

I thought you'd be the first in line, since you dislike .uk domains so much. :p

I won't be splitting any pairs as I just don't feel its worth the risk. I suspect most people are going to be in the same camp as me... buy them both or piss off.

You're comparing registering the very best domains in the top extension.

What I was getting at is that early to mid 90's .com wasn't the top anything, in fact the majority said the internet and world wide web would never take off and was a waste of time. Now, similarly, some like Monkey think .uk is a waste of time and will never take off. That is what I'm getting at.

I like the .uk and think it will gradually take over, the reason is it's shorter and simpler, so that will mean increasing usage.

The .uk may also make more people decide to use this over the .com. However, the com still has the advantage of being one syllable over the two of uk.

Surely by this logic .co would have overtaken .com by now?

Yes, comparing .co.uk and .uk is exactly the same as comparing .com to .co

Seriously?

No, they're a world apart. I wasn't comparing .co to the .uk. I was showing that the logic behind shorter is better is flawed. Established extensions win out in the long run, regardless of length.

Exactly, so Nominets numbers doesnt add up in real life ..

Look at DL changed to .uk months ago, Denys is always at the forefront of new :D

He also owns a massive portfolio of domains which has now virtually doubled in size. It's in his and every other domainers best interest if .uk gains some prominence. Money for nothing right?

Exactly and there will be no throwing in the .uk I bet.. that will be treated as a seperate or as a pair but with a paired price. Its always up to the buyer he/she does not have to buy.

I don't have any problem with that either. If you want to double or triple your price because .uk is included then you're free to do so. But at least tell people from the outset or offer it then from the outset at a fair price. Don't keep quite, let them build their .co.uk business up and then come out of the woodwork a few years later.
