Domain Manager

I was wondering what people use to manage there domains, at the moment I am using Excel, but I think something with a little more functionality wouldn't go amiss. What features do you look for when deciding what to use?

Would you consider a fully hosted system, if it had all the right features? If so what features would you use the most?

Incase your wondering, I am looking at developing my own system, 'namechase.co.uk' and would like some input into what people use the most?

Not sure if I'd want a fully hosted system, but the features I need are:

- Expiry date
- Registrar
- Host
- Notes
- Up/down status
- Moz integration for PA, DA
- PageRank

In an ideal world it would check to see if WordPress needed upgrading too. And maybe some kind of Pingdom integration.

Moz.com PA = Page Authority, and DA = Domain Authority.

Up/Down Status I assume she means is the website responding if it has one, so would need a flag for "has domain" and a flag for "if has domain true, is website up or down" kinda thing.

I think the moz integration would be the hardest, as you'd need moz access to code it, then you'd need to handle the users moz details. in order remote login and collect the information. Shouldn't be too hard overall but could be costly if you are not already a moz subscriber.

I don't use any sort of management tools for domains, my Nominet control panel tells me what needs renewing, that's all I need to know really.

Something along the lines of isup.me them, but with monitoring capabilities and text alerts?

Coding wise, it shouldn't be to hard, most applications like moz are written in RoR these day's, because of the simplicity of the language and rapid development. Getting permission off moz to connect to them could be tricky, especially if they don't have an api available.

I do little to nothing in the way of development, I mostly just post domains for sale on here and then stick them on Sedo.

Moz do have an API, looking at ahrefs starting at $80 up to $500 PER MONTH, my assessment of difficulty was based on you having to shell out up to $500 to code it rather than hitting their api

ahrefs do offer a partners deal where you could hammer their servers without your clients needing their account but its going to cost you again.
