Domain Name Selling Support

Hi There,

Sadly this is the account of my late Husband, Julian. We lost him suddenly last March. He was a regular user of this site. It has taken me a lot of time, but I have finally navigated my way around his admin. He had built up quite a large number of domains. I know he was very passionate about them. I am not in the business and would like to streamline his collection so it is more manageable and so that all of his efforts don't go to waste. Can anyone tell me the best way to do this? I'm not really sure of values and obviously don't want to under sell them.

I have sold a few on Sedo, but this was luck rather than judgement and obviously they take a big cut.

Any advice greatly received. Please use laymans terms because I am a total newbie!!

Sorry about your loss, Julian was a funny bloke.

Can you post a list of his domains, or a link to the whole portfolio? If so, I'm sure other members and myself would be more than happy to give you some input on domain values.

The price point will be a major factor in how quickly domains will sell, good domains, if listed too low will sell quicker, but if he has premium domains, those should be priced higher, which will almost certainly mean waiting longer term for a sale.

I depends on what you want and how long your prepared to wait, or do you want to get the number of domains down quickly, in which case, setting prices that might tempt quicker offers and sales would be the way to go, but perhaps hold on to the better domains at higher prices.

Is it just Sedo that you have the domains listed at? You could also list at Afternic.com, which is owned by GoDaddy, but you'll have to list in Dollar prices as they don't have a Pound Sterling option.

No matter which domain platform you sell at, there are going to be commissions and VAT to pay, another alternative would be to auction them in a sales thread on here, at least you have no commission to pay that way.

It is sad to hear. Sorry for your loss.

If you need to choose just 1 platform (and want them to do it all), I would probably trust @sedo this task.

If you can be in London on either September 2nd or 3rd - Sedo will be at the annual Domain Summit (I am the organizer). Please send me a direct message and I will send you a code for a complimentary ticket.

There you can meet Sedo in person, also both new marketplaces @fruits.co (Germany) and @nameshift (Netherlands), and also Above.com (established, old, and solid marketplace from Australia - they also trade UK domains). All these marketplaces will have their top staff with them who will be able to answer all your questions.

Godaddy will also be attending, though they are sending in marketplace staff to meet with their clients.

Just to add,

On Sedo, if you go to My Account then General, you'll see a section called Portfolio Link, click the icon to copy the link, and that will give you a page on Sedo which shows all domains you have listed there for sale, and you can put the link here.
