domain redemption period help

Hi,

First post here, please be gentle!

I really want the .com variant of our main company domain name. I noticed yesterday that there is no whois output being displayed for it, just the message 'No match for: domain.com in the registrar database'. From domaintools.com the status for this domain is: On-hold (redemption Period).

Here are the last whois records:
Updated Date: 05-oct-2009
Creation Date: 25-aug-2008
Expiration Date: 25-aug-2009

Is my understandiung correct here? The expired on 25/08/09. On 05/10/09 the domain was updated to redemption period. As this is a period of 30 days the domain should be availble for registration on roughly the 05/11/09?

Based on the exp date of the 25th Aug, the predicted drop dates will be 02-Dec-2009 or 25-Nov-2009, I used Drop Dates which can be found by clicking here. Or use the dates above just below the Acorn logo. Hope this helps..

Dropdates is for .UK names. com's are different, however I'm not sure of the calculation, but someone on here will....

Actually, the date is .com drops isn't fixed.

The grace period is variable and differs from registrar to registrar depends on their T&Cs - it ranges from 0 to 45 days.

As such you can only calculate the deletion date after the domain enters the Redemption period.

Best thing to do is to book the name at Namejet, Snapnames and Pool (but some registrars are tied to certain drop services). Another thing to note is that if it's a Godaddy or Dynadot name then they hold their own expiring auctions.

Unfortunately, without more info on the name I can't be more specific than that.

If it's even a slightly decent name, there's a good chance it won't drop but will go to one of the auction houses like snapnames.com, namejet.com or pool.com. Well worth booking it with these companies, but you might need to fight it out with other bidders.

People here don't catch .com because it's highly competitive and most of the registrars have agreements in place to send expired names direct to one of the auction houses listed above. So most half-decent names don't actually "drop".

The domain in question has now been updated to the pendingDelete status and the whois record shows the last update was on 05/11/2009.

Does this mean that the domain will be available for registration as of 10/11/09?

I have backordered the diomain with godaddy, simply.co.uk and domain monster.

How do I check if the domain is booked on the above sites?

Also, what does the following mean - AUC (am trying to find exact time the domain drops) E.g.

07/11/2009 12:00:00 AM, AUC

You need to book it with the main 3 as above - Pool/NameJet/SnapNames - chances are it will go with one of them and you will then be entered into an auction for it with everyone else that's booked it.

Hi,

Pool finally secured the domain for me and registered it with a registrar called namescout.com.

I want to transfer the .com domain to a uk based registrar. The namescout site let me unlock the domain and create a auth code.

I've just tried to enter the auth code at my new registrar but a message is returned saying the domain is locked.

After much digging, deep in the namescout faqs I found the following:

Please note: You will not be able to unlock any domain name(s) that have been registered within the previous 60 days. The registry automatically places a 60-day registry lock on all new domain name(s) and prevents them from being switched during this period. You are still able to modify your domain name record from within your Master Account during this time.

Is this normal?
