hi i have a few quick questions about domain selling, if you are able to answer any thanks.

what is bumping? (it says on the bargin basement domains that bumping is allowed?

it also says on the intro to bargin basement section that domains might need renewing right away....does that mean the money you pay to nomnet is just for changing the details on domain name and that you might have to rereg it after a few weeks?

say i have just sold a domain on this website....what next? do i wait for them to send the domain to me before i give over the money? (this might be ok with small domains but not big ones that are x,xxx+.

should i check to see if the domain is owned by that person in the first place?

do you have to pay for each domain transfered or is it cheaper in bulk?

thanks for your time

Answers to your questions:

Q) what is bumping? (it says on the bargin basement domains that bumping is allowed?

A) That is thread bumping, and it means replying needlessly to your own thread so everybody sees it more regularly and to keep your own threads more visisble.

Q) it also says on the intro to bargin basement section that domains might need renewing right away....does that mean the money you pay to nomnet is just for changing the details on domain name and that you might have to rereg it after a few weeks?

A) The renewal fee refers to the fact that every 2 years a .co.uk domain has to be renewed with Nominet, otherwise your registration expires and the domain is the available to others again.

Renewal fees are different from transfer fees. Transfer fees are associated with change of domain ownership.

Q) say i have just sold a domain on this website....what next? do i wait for them to send the domain to me before i give over the money? (this might be ok with small domains but not big ones that are x,xxx+.

A) These are just quick answers, you need to be careful with payments:

If you are selling a domain you usually wait for payment before effecting the Nominet transfer. You can use the forum feedback system to gain an insight into how reliable people are. Be particularly careful with PayPal payments as it's easier to get scammed with PayPal via PayPal chargeback.

If you are buying a domain, you need to make a judgement on the reliability of the seller for small amounts, use the forum feedback system to see the history of an Acorn member. For larger amounts, use an Escrow service. Ask to be sent an invoice by the seller, also ask for their address and landline telephone number. You do need to be careful sometimes, build up a picture of who you are dealing with.

Q) should i check to see if the domain is owned by that person in the first place?

A) Yes, definitely.

Q) do you have to pay for each domain transfered or is it cheaper in bulk?

A) A mass transfer is cheaper, see:

Mass Transfers

Otherwise it's:

Transfer
