For those of you pro-actively selling domain names do you ever include comparable domain name sale values to backup your valuation?

Yes, sure. So you can state something like:

I've researched the price of similar names and found that:

domain1.co.uk sold for £x,xxx
domain2.co.uk sold for £x,xxx
domain3.co.uk sold for £x,xxx

But we aren't looking for nearly as much - we are only looking for £xxx...

I do sometimes, I also point out what their competitors are using (and even better if you have price they paid).

I often point them to Admins prices site and edwins people who get it post.

Cheers for the feedback. Domainprices.co.uk seems to have stopped being updated and when I checked Edwins list previously a lot of the domains seemed to have changed hands :(

You have to be careful because many sales are one of a kind.
Many sales are in the 3 figures.

Adapt the sales pitch to the circumstances and peculiarities of the end user.
They already own a domain name - you are offering something better (more credible) than what they already have.
Or: you are offering a domain that will put them ahead of the competition in terms of credibility, brandability memorability etc.

I have sold quite a few real estate related domains. So the sales pitch is simple: just one transaction will pay for the domain, then you have a nice business card on the Internet that is yours forever.
For an end user that pays 5 figures or more in online/offline advertising yearly, the value proposition of a domain name should be a no-brainer. Should.
