At a guess it's probably because they are considered lower quality and Denys would rather they were secondary to non hyphenated domains by giving them a shorter auction time?
 
sorry - that was a bit of short remark. Why would you limit the time on hyphens when a strong generic hyphen purchased many years ago could be far more valuable than a term that is not particularly strong and was only purchased last year. Doesn't make logical sense to me. That's what I meant by Why?
