Does anyone have any experience of these two directory software providers?

If you don't mind a bit of tinkering around to make things work how you want then phpmydirectory is decent and can be fully owned for about the price of a months subscription on those two:

Having done some research it appears AirBnB is built on the edirectory platform you listed above so that would be my choice of software.

Depending upon what you want, I can recommend you something, I would like to avoid eDirectory, that is expensive, slow, difficult to play with and hard to customize, not very suitable if you want to run it for country, it might work out if it is city specific.

Do you want to run a Web Directory or something along the lines of Yelp?

Do you mind showing an example site of what you want? the directory softwares you showed contain too many features, classifieds, photos, videos, movies, coupons and what not. I like the idea of going Niche and Limited localities, it is easier to build and grow that way, for a full fledge Business/Geo portal this script can do a wonderful job http://www.longisland.com/ http://www.mybangalore.com/ powered by this http://www.blackmonk.com/ but mind it, it will require a lot of resource populating and managing.

Thanks for this info, it looks like a very interesting product and I have requested a demo with them.

I have a few nice domains I want to develop and a couple of existing sites, I'd like to move things to a more stable and reliable platform with a few more bells and whistles. Currently I like the look of eDirectory which has IoS and Android Apps available, these could be launched at a later date and help generate some good PR as well as adding a bit more kudos to the sites themselves.

I was thinking about using ClassiPress directory for it as I already have a theme from them, but they look very basic, so I may give yours a go.
