Estibot

Hi all,

Does anyone have an Estibot API account that I could use for a day to check my entire portfolio?

Or is anyone interested in sharing an account? It is $19.99 a month.

Thanks

Is the paid for Estibot useful for keyword info and link info ?

I take it you don't want it for appraisals

sly dog.....yes customer ,my domain "domainsdomainsdomains.co.uk" is extremely valuable just look at this link to estibot....."£10k"

mmm!!! , when you enquire about a domain and the email comes back "according to estibot it is worth £8k" so i would accept anything around that figure.....

Do people have a formula for estimating worth?

Do people have a formula for estimating worth?

(Value of Estibot Appraisal = 0)

Sorry, but that's about the long and the short of it. Automated estimation tools aren't worth using, as they're invariably ridiculously optimistic or pessimistic. I've never found one which would appraise domains even remotely consistently with how I would expect "the market" to.

Of course it's all very subjective but I would use:

• Length of the domain name,
• Number of words in the domain name,
• Domain extension,
• Potential usage,
• Linguistic & Phonological features,
• Typing error sensitivity,
• Legal implications (Trademark issues, etc.),
• Geographic/Regional usability,
• Actual sales history for similar domains,
• Link popularity,
• Keyword density,
• Special characters, Punctuation marks, etc.,
• Typed-in traffic, if any,
• Site content, if any,
• Site traffic, if any,
• Site membership, if any,
• Site track record, if any,
• and Appraiser's own experience

Did I miss anything? How would you weight each of these?

- Niche dominance i.e. how much the term in question is THE term for the niche. In other words, does a potential buyer HAVE to come to you.
- Average sales price of the product/service referenced in the domain
- Number of companies in the niche (rough estimate based on Googling and looking for actual companies which reference the keyword in their sales pitch on the homepage vs scraper sites, info sites etc.)
- Number of sites with the keywords in the domain in their own URL. If you're talking about example.co.uk, then ___example.co.uk or example___.co.uk would count.

In other words, a lot of very important criteria that will NEVER be automated. That's why I said automatic tools are worthless, since they cannot cope with these kinds of "at one remove" data items that require somebody with a brain and willing to put in a bit of legwork to go off and research.

- Search traffic
- Level of competition
- The ease in which a revenue stream can be made from the traffic (for example, having dominance in an insurance niche is more valuable than dominance in an animal niche given equal traffic).
- PPC cost for niche

These are not mutually exclusive.

In terms of automating it you would have to use some sort of statistical distribution for the value contibuted by each of the factors. Those at the top of each factor are worth exponentially more than those only a few steps away. For example in length, a 2 letter .com may be worth 100 times more than a 3 letter, and a 4 letter is worth squat. Another example is Edwin's niche dominance, you can be 1 letter away from the dominant term and be worth 100 times less, and 2 letters to be worth nowt, perhaps petinsurance vs. petsinsurance vs. petsinsurances

It would be a very difficult problem, but you may be able to leverage Google's adwords auctions for a very blunt approximation. It wouldn't work for the 2 letter type anomalies, but for keyword domains how about something along the lines of

[factor 1 x exact searches x ppc cost] + [factor 2 x phrase searches x ppc cost] + [factor 3 x broad searches x ppc cost] + [factor 4 x no of advertisers] + [factor 5 x no. of exact search results] + [factor 6 x no. of broad search results] + [factor 7 x no. of domains containing keywords]

Then have a 1000 or so domains across many niches manually valued, enter all the Google data and try some sort of regression analysis for the various unknown factors?

Just throwing it out there...

Thanks for the detailed feedback.

I think what I am trying to get to is a ballpark estimator as an exact valuation tool is impossible I agree. I will go through your ideas and see what results that would give.

I also wondered if I can put the DomainPrices.co.uk data to good use by aggregating sales data by keyword or niche.

I have purchased an Estibot account to try it out for bulk scans. If anyone wants their portfolio scanned it's 10p a name and I'll send you an Excel report with the details (45 columns of data per name)
