It's not going to happen, read this on the Arc Manche site faq's:

http://www.arcmanche.com/en/faq/

It is important to stress that this is an informal, voluntary network of local authorities who can use the network to share best practice, coordinate initiatives and pull together project ideas to draw in EU funding. It is not a 'regional Assembly' like the South East England Regional Assembly. It has absolutely no powers confered to it, no role in governance, law-making or public administration.

But as it's in the news for a bit now, I regged arcmanche.co.uk (22 exacts) haha :)

Why would it have a role in governance, law-making or public administration anyway? All that power is kept firmly in Brussels!

Thin end of the wedge if you ask me.

As Jean Monnet, one of the founding fathers of the EU said in the 1950s: “Europe’s nations should be guided towards the super state without their peoples knowing what is happening. This can be accomplished by successive steps, each disguised as having an economic purpose, but which will eventually and irreversibly lead to federation.”

First we had the loose "trade agreement" with the European Coal and Steel Community. Then they formed the European Community, then the European Parliament. Now a there's a president and an anthem. Each decade, successive treaties have transferred more power to Brussels to the point that nowadays most of our laws are made by non-Brits in Brussels. Now they're beginning to try to carve Britain up and merge part of it with France. Where will this end up in 10 years, 20 years, 30 years? Most likely the goal is to remove the divisions between countries and replace them with new regional divisions decided by the EU, so that gradually the 'country' becomes a thing of the past and people eventually think in terms of living in regions of Europe.

I'm gonna start regging .eu's in light of this news.
Could be a good long-term investment

It won't happen, if it does it will be just areas of funding not actual new countries or territories.

Cmon guys, see through the crap. It's just Daily Mail right wing bullshit.
