I often wonder what would happen on very high traffic sites if you redirected 1% of page views to a parking page instead.

I don't think I would keep members here very long if I randomly sent them to a parking page

not here, maybe, but on sites that get good repeat traffic due to large populated forum areas, but low click through and not a large active membership. You're right, anywhere with a a community would be killed off! But for quite but well visited sites, I do wonder...
