Hi,

We have, unfortunately, had our first fraudulent account created for catching dropped domains. (Will post a bit more about this in another thread.)

All of the following have been caught with the fraudulent account. We're offering them for sale here in case anyone else wanted to book them or had them booked elsewhere and missed them!

** Update ** All domains now just at cost of £6 each.

Cheers.

If I remember correctly you can still delete them within 28days of registration if that helps ie. before Nom issues the invoice.

Yep, thanks, I think you're right. Will delete them before we're billed but thought it best to offer them in case anyone else wanted them and missed them.

Cheers.

Don't forget that you can only delete a certain % of domains you register, and the % quota from one month runs over to the next month, and can result in your dac being blocked for a month if you go over it, it's something like that, so look in to it first.

Thought I'd look it up :D

If you register a domain name and successfully send a delete instruction to our registrar systems before midnight on the 7th day of the month following registration, we will not charge you.

However please note that there is a limit to your use of the delete operation. The limit will be 5 domain names or 5% of domain names that have yet to be invoiced (whichever is higher). Once this limit is reached all delete requests will be rejected and the domain names will be invoiced.

Great, thanks for this everybody. You live and learn.

Looks like we'll only be able to delete 5 in that case. Will leave them a day or two at the prices above and if there's no interest I'll drop them to cost.

Cheers.

Yon can phone nominet and explain the situation and they will likely delete them. The sooner you do this the better.

I did this when my catch script went crazy. Long as you fix the flaw they be ok.

Wouldn't it be better to offer them at cost. Just another sales thread at catch prices with a boo hoo story?

It's not a "boo hoo" story since I'm not trying to elicit sympathy.

They were offered at normal price because I don't see any issue with trying to make a profit.

As mentioned I will drop the price to cost if no-one is interested at full price.

Cheers.

All domains now at cost of £6 each.

Looks like it was a case of "buyer's remorse" rather than fraud as the user claimed!

Cheers.

Check bookings for crap before you start the day's catching. Anyone booking those to pay more than reg fee (or even reg fee) has to be a nutter anyway.

Hi Caz,

Yes, I can explain if you like. No pressure from me :)

The user created an account and added domains to catch. We caught the domains. I emailed the user to ask for invoicing details. User emailed me back to say their email must have been used in error and they did not require the domains.

I checked the IP address the email was sent from and the IP address used to create the account. They matched. This means the same connection was used to both sign up and email me.

I suspect they signed up, added domains, were surprised that they were all caught (£400 at list price) and changed their mind and claimed their email was used in error.

I emailed the user to offer a reduced fee if they would pay. No response. Decided now to withdraw the offer to the user because, basically, I can't be bothered chasing them and there's not much more I can do.

We will be adding emailing verification before an account goes live to stop this claim from happening again.

That's it in a nutshell :)

Cheers.

PS Thanks for the offer by PM of email verification code... I'm on with it but on holiday at the moment so not got round to it!

Very happy to vouch for Duncan's honesty and integrity.

It's amazing the amount of people (some members here) who never pay for a backorder and ignore emails. I can't believe that every person has a valid reason.
