For anyone who has bought a gambling related domain from me recently, please feel free to sell it back lol

Google now letting you opt in to gambling ads, should be a good payer, or am I missing something?

@ GotLiveChat, thanks, as I thought, gambling sites still aren't allowed to use Adsense, I checked the Adsense help section and Google, and found nothing related to them now allowing it.

If you only build sites that use adsense, and collect say email addresses to market to, you are well within the terms to use adsense.

If you have a blog/s/or network with gambling related content, one opt in and you could make lots more money surely?

just as long as you don't actually allow gambling directly on your site you're good - recent change, adsense emails only just went out today explaining this. glad i picked up online-gambling.org.uk at a recent dl auction now :)

yes sorry, I should have said it was just announced today ready for launch 11th October.

Some people have amazing domains that could make good money via adsense I'm sure.

I've run adsense ads to a gambling site for 18 months - stopped about 6 months ago as I was getting priced out.

It was an online scratch site (affiliate) that I direct linked to. Keywords included;

online casino slots
scratch off games
scratch cards
instant scratch games
scratch win
etc

priced out? meaning no ads were being served to your site?

i thought adsense were very strict with not allowing gambling ads before this announcement so that may have meant certain restrictions/limitations were applied to the kind of ads they were selling which may have impacted your returns.

will be interesting to see how this plays out over the coming months...

I've never bothered place google ads on gambling sites, as I was never 100% whether it was allowed. Strangely though, plenty of well known betting firms have always used google adwords to advertise. Where is this option to 'opt in' that people are talking about?

Using the new AdSense interface, click on the Allow & Block Ads tab.

In the righthand column you'll then see a Sensitive Categories option under Blocking Options.

Right at the bottom of Sensitive Categories, they have added Gambling and by default it is blocked. Simply unblock it by clicking the box and confirming your selection.

I understand that we can opt-in to display gamblings ads, but does it follow that we are allowed to place these ads on gambling themed sites? I know it's seems obvious that it should but the current adsense rules suggest that it isn't. Maybe that situation is due to change. If/when I'm sure that it has changed I'll stick them up on my horse racing tips site.

The rules are changing - hence this thread ;-)

As long as you don't allow gambling directly on your site, do not have under 18 traffic and are not contravening gambling laws by displaying such ads (every country has their own laws and ads will be automatically blocked rather than displayed to visitors from certain countries), then these ads will appear on gambling related sites from the 11th of October.

Thanks for the post diablo. I'm really not trying to nitpick, just want to be 100% sure :). Thanks for alerting us to the opt-in etc.

Don't blame you. Nobody wants their Google AdSense account suspended.

Also, is the opt-in for the whole adsense account or can you specify individual sites? It states that the adds as not allowed to be displayed on sites that can appeal to under 18's. I have a variety of sites so that could cause a problem unless I'm able to activate this for specific sites only.
