There's nothing unlucky about getting £2750 for underdogs, that's a great price; who wouldn't be chuffed with that!
Every buyer, big or small, has a ceiling limit and holding out for more could easily have resulted in a lost sale for the plural and possibly even for the singular if the buyer was only interested in getting both.
