does anyone know why a mini site I have which had been in 4rth position on the first page of google for about 4 months has suddenly dropped to the middle of the 3rd page.

No change has been made to the site and all the other sites on the first page have remained as they are. The change seems to have happened since Xmas.

Any views would be appreciated.

From what I have observed with mini sites, they can rank initially, quite well for their main keyword/url but quite often they get sandboxed and you can find them disappear on you for {variable} length of time.

How quickly they come back to ranking well can come down to the quality of any links, mostly once they disappear they just need time - which can be quite a few months before they will stablise and rank well.

If it is a mini site for adsense, then Google appear to be dropping the rankings of MFA sites as there are too many littering the net.

You can do a little work on a mini site to stabilise it or wait it out and the site will come back, eventually, they don't tar mini sites -all sites are subject to the sandbox effect. I have many that rank very well that are more established but also have plenty that are out for now.
