I have been promoting the Groupon affiliate scheme for some time now and making some reasonable returns on promoting their deals on my sites.

This week I got a very snotty email from a Company threatening me with legal action for promoting their Groupon deal on my site. I told them that the deals I post are provided by Groupon through their affiliate scheme and I was therefore within my rights of the scheme to do so. There were also 23 other sites promoting the same deal.

I reported it to Groupon who immediatly called me to apologise and said they would handle it with the Company in question but I guess it raises a question, how do I make sure that I don't get threatened with legal action? I would just counter claim against Groupon?

Anyone else come across this?

I imagine they would have signed a contract with Groupon, saying that they give consent for their product/service to be promoted on affiliate sites?
