Sad to say I've never heard of him or Slayer:

Slayer, co-founded by Hanneman and Kerry King, became one of the "big four" thrash metal groups of the 1980s, along with Anthrax, Megadeth and Metallica.

Out of those 4 groups, I've only ever heard of Metallica, and I'm an old git, not sure about Anthrax, I might be getting that one mixed up with the poison .

He died very young. Never realised the band members were that young in their 80s heyday...

Saw them in 88 and 95. I'm only a few years younger than him. It's always sad when a musician dies close to my age.
