Someone contacted me asking to buy a twitter handle, I replied I'm not looking to sell it but if you want to make me an offer that's up to you

I said if you want to have a discussion, it's not a great idea to threaten someone, especially with an imaginary trademark

Obviously a chancer just contacting people with decent twitter handles hoping to use the threat of a trademark to get them to give them up for cheap (he actually offered me $40 lol)

Very poor way of going about things.

thing is....if he did get a TM then he could get it pretty easily if it's an inactive twitter account

Well I am pretty sure Murray can make it active in that case lol.

+ Twitter have really tightened up on giving out twitter handles, compared to how freely they would in the past!

If he was actually getting a TM and it were inactive, wouldn't it be a mistake to contact someone to alert them they need to start using it

& In this case, it isn't inactive.

Just a chancer mate, just ignore them. Assigning a trademark on the assumption they can then take the handle from you, hahaha, tell them to try! Just put a post up ever now and then, once a year, so it remains outside of Twitters terms, which is around 2 or 3 years before assumed inactive.

Interested to know how they contacted you though, just sent you a public message on Twitter?

Tried buying Twitter handles in the past; the hardest part is getting hold of the owner, especially if they are not regular posters.

They tweeted me on my personal twitter asking me to DM them

I assume they probably searched my twitter avatar on google to find my normal twitter; I don't they know they went that extra step though, might as well of just tweeted me at the account they wanted

I said I thought he was just using trademark talk to get the name for cheap, probably to resell, he soon dropped the act

The way he was acting there you would think id contacted him begging him to make me an offer.. lol

You know you left it in that conversation? ..... isn't the best name

Oh yeah thanks, I noticed after I posted, it's not super secret or anything though, I follow a few people from here on it.

OK :) Only said as I saw you blocked it out in first post.

Alot of those sold names look a bit cheap. Maybe the sellers didn't realise the value of what they were holding?

Make yours 'Rampant', that'll give the chancer something to look at :)

The only reason is because I don't want it to look as though I was trying to sell it, which of course I wasn't because that goes against twitters tos

I don't know where he got those names and figures from and if they'r true or not, I remember reading supposedly Israel was sold for a large sum, both ends of the scale but it's the same as a domains value isn't it, subjective to the particular seller and buyer

He sounds like a kid tbh, just tell him you have plans for the handle and won't be selling; covering off his threats of trademark.

I bet some exchange hands for a pretty penny. You're right in this case though, I think they're just trying to scare people into giving them their twitter handles.

I think you are pretty safe from a trademark point of view with that term.
