How can anyone trademark the term "cheap flights"? It's wholey descriptive of "cheap flights"! Cheapflights Media Limited actually do have two trademarks for CheapFlights but "The applicant claims the colours blue and yellow as an element of the first mark in the series, the mark is "cheapflights" not "cheap flights" and includes a graphic. Both are in classes 41 and 44 only. That's probably the limit they were allowed. Two other applications for marks in substantially more categories were opposed in 2003.

I'd go as far as suggesting that if someone has registered typos of "cheapflights.co.uk" and linked them to content relating to "cheap flights" they aren't actually doing anything wrong because the domain name is descriptive of the content and Cheapflights Media Limited cannot prevent others from incorporating "cheapflights" in their domain name registrations (e.g. CheapFlightsToNewYork.co.uk").

Hell of a way to create some "passing trade" ain't it, not even a loss leader there.
