Help Please - Pc turn off problem

Anyone have any suggestions to why my pc running windows XP has recently decided to ignore me when i try to turn it off using the normal method.

Start/Turn off Computer/Turn off

The egg timer flashes up on the screen then nothing?

If i put into standby first it works?

Try defrag your h/d and if poss a decent defrag prog as the windows one dosent work too good.. a good one is disk keeper.

also check the error logs, they may let you know what's going wrong.

I don't have xp but look up something like event viewer, or control panel->administrative tools-> performance->event viewer + a few other logs.

Google for "Crap Cleaner", it's a free Windows app that will tidy up your whole PC including the system registry.

Use "Search & Destroy" to check for gremlins.
