Host location

Hi all. I've read that host location is important in SEO, eg. you want to host from the country that your targeting. However as I use a free host, I am stuck being hosted in Germany (targeting the UK). Will it make a huge difference? I've already registered on some larger directories, have started link exchanging and signed up to affiliate..

Make sure it is set to target the UK in Google webmaster tools, you should be OK then.

For any new sites make sure you check the host location, before building the site.

Well I can't do alot about the host location because I don't pay for the hosting. I just wondered if it made that big a difference

In that case, as GeoMal has mentioned in post #2, use Google Webmaster tools.

This will enable you to set the geographic location for the domain or sub-folders or sub-domains.

TLD is another geo-location factor, e.g. .co.uk is a signal to Google that the site is relevant for UK search results.
