Hostgator have totally gone down the pan since they were took over! Waited over 30 minutes to enter chat with support, explained that my vps had just started running extremely slowly and gave them an example website so they could see the issue in action.

Rather than doing the normal thing and investigating the server, they ran the website through gtmetrix.com and told me that based on the result my website needs optimising!! No sh*t it's a bad result, the goddam server is grinding to a halt!!

I've been telling people (without performing libel) about this as much as I can. They're migrating 3-4 servers into 1 with the facility move. Same with the VPS hypervisors.

I'd get out while you can.

Since I built my first website I used Hostgator as my host. I didn't realise they'd been taken, over but a few months back I had problems on every single one of the hosting accounts I held with them. When I sought help it was really bad - the service wasn't good at all.

I'm not very "techy" so I could be wrong, but the SQL or database server kept crashing on all of my hosting accounts on various servers (sorry if that doesn't make any sense). Every time I went on live support I had to verify digits from my credit card and wait ages for help. In the end I just moved away from Hostgator and everything has been fine since. I've heard similar horror stories though from people still hosting with them.

I used to swear by them, but not any more!
