How easy would it be to build something like Fluther.com

I just came across Fluther: Tap the Collective.

Looks like some sort forum software has been used/ adapted. Any idea if this is something that can be done easily ?

Easy depends on your coding knowledge, although I reckon you could probably replicate it with Wordpress or Joomla and a few plugins.

It's definitely possible to create a basic version of this with Wordpress using nothing more than a bespoke theme and some plugins.

Simply open up registration to the world and use code from the P2 theme to allow people to create posts from pages on the site, rather than having to login to the admin area. These posts become 'questions'. Lock down commenting to only registered users, the comments become your answers.

It would take a bit of skill to make it feel natural and look good, but it's definitely do-able (and if you want to pay someone to do it for you, I'm a very experienced WP developer available for Freelance work - I reckon I could handle this).

The downside is that it won't have advanced features like voting comments up and down to ascertain the best answer, but I believe that could also be added with a simple plugin.

Alternatively, there's StackExchange. This is the backend that powers the popular Q&A site StackOverflow. It'll be available from September if the website is to be believed.
