Is it possible to change a website's ip address by changing host or even transfering the domain to another register?

Yes, the ip address is based on the server it's hosted on so moving hosts will change it, changing domain registrar will not. Your host may even be able to give you your own ip for a small monthly fee.

So technically if the nameserver is changed the ip is changed?

As far as I know you need to change A-record for a domain in order to point a website to another IP address!

Changing the name server won't really change the IP, because the name servers are more like a map, and many people hold/create maps.

I have a choice of about 30 different name servers with 30 different IPs but my websites have different IPs again. Running DNS, SQL, Websites all on server is risky, and not great for scaling.

You should contact your host and ask about a dedicated IP, I have one with dreamhost, and I have emailed them in the past and asked them to refresh my IP (change) and they have without any major problems, my other host I havent needed to ask.

so will changing the ip gets you off the "blocked list"???? ;)

depends whether the subnet has been blocked rather than just the IP, often if a subnet is blocked, then other subnets for that provider may also be blocked.

You need to find out why your IP has been blocked otherwise you'll simply get blocked each time you change.

Depends who has blocked you and how they have blocked you :p

They can block by URI, IP, Subnet or I believe maybe by MAC. I know at work we block people by MACs.

Monaghan, The host can request removal of a subnet ban, and I believe there are laws/rules in place where they cannot block a host thru the action of 1 user only if its repeated abuse.

Of course they can, but if you don't resolve what triggered the ban, then you'll simply go from clear to banned again and again. If you've had a ban and not resolved the issue, then it is pointless moving to a non-banned IP until the root cause is removed.

I was thinking is google or adsense linking to your site's name or site's ip? in anotherword how does their system work?

Thats what I mean.

They only ban a host if its repeated and consistant abuse and the host doesnt resolve it or attempt to.

For example my servage account used to get blocked from hotmail / msn email every week (seriously) all mail was rejected didnt even make the spam bin. You had to kick them and they contact some monkey at microshaft who used to unblock it a few hours later. If you didnt kick them it would take weeks to unblock.

The tech at Servage was telling me there is some guideline or rule or law, I don't recall which, about giving a host a fair chance to correct the problem as blocking a whole host for the actions of one person can result in a lawsuit for loss of earnings or something like that. So they won't perm block a whole host until the host is taking the piss and not dealing with the problem.

If I hadnt lost a hard drive in my old machine, I would have been able to find the ICQ conversation.

I don't know much more about it than my own limited experience as above, I guess someone who runs a hosting company could help more ?

Of course they can, but if you don't resolve what triggered the ban, then you'll simply go from clear to banned again and again. If you've had a ban and not resolved the issue, then it is pointless moving to a non-banned IP until the root cause is removed.

Takwa do you actually have a adsense account ?

If you have been terminated, new accounts go off your name (name on the cheque) area you live, bank details etc. You would need to get a friend or family member to create an account. Even then you cannot put adsense on a domain that the old account was on. I know people who made that mistake.

Once the sites been in a banned account in your name your better not putting in any other account.

No none of that is happening to me, just out of interest as I had seen this question raised before in another forum.

So say the guy wasn't ban from adsense, just that domain name was, will he ever be able to use that name with adsense again?

new ip

hi,
click start, run, type cmd or command.com

type this in on run
ipconfig/flushdns
ipconfig/release
ipconfig/renew
exit

remember to hit enter i.e... ipconfig/flushdns (enter) ipconfig/release (enter) ipconfig/renew (enter) now type exit... done.

your ip address should now be changed happy unbanning. :D:D:D
