to when there were half as many .uk domains registered as there are today, what areas would you focus on.

I'll tell you exactly why I'm asking. I invest mainly in .au and I figure that the Australian market is about half as developed as the UK market. Crudely measuring it on a 'domains per capita' ratio.

So I'm hoping your experience, successes and regrets in .uk domains might yield some lessons for me in .au moving forward.

Maybe you would have done things like:

1) hand reg more generic names
2) buy out all LLL.co.uk
3) buy more premium names on the aftermarket
4) played the drops a little more aggressively
5) introduced new domain related services

etc etc

Any info would be greatly received.

Thank you

David

How about 6) All of the above?

I frequently enter the domain time machine and I'd say of the list 3) is the most interesting - top quality domains are likely to have been registered already, but they might still be relatively cheap compared to where they'll be in 10 years time. If you can buy a few top quality domains, then I'm sure these will do well for you. By top quality I mean domains that have a clear purpose and multiple end users.

p.s. probably worth buying a few LLL if you can hand reg them - just in case - BUT even then, pick a few of the best remaining rather than as many as you can buy (you could still be sitting on them for a few years)
