Is domaining closer to real estate… or closer to gambling?

HI, there. I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately.

Do you think domaining works more like real estate, where research and patience pay off? Or does it feel more like gambling, where timing and luck matter more than skill?

Have you had moments that made you switch sides?

Great question I feel like it supposed to be more like real estate but as you need to make money sometimes I think we get carried away and sell cheap to put money back in the bank so then feels more like gambling as you buy certain domains hoping to make a quick flip sometimes the gamble doesn't pay off and then the others we try to hold on to for maximum profit but yes you can definitely get gamblers fever in the domain industry lol

Now I’m curious, what made you walk into the domain casino instead of any other one? 😂

It’s like real estate, but people can become gamblers with it

Buying jumpers.com is like buying a shop on Oxford Street

Buying topbuildersinwirral.co.uk is a bit like buying a tiny parcel of greenbelt land in the hope planning permission might get secured on it some time soon

Domains act like real estate when demand is clear, and like gambling when liquidity fades, yeah? ;)

:D :D nice one :) .. for majority (most dn investors seem to have small portfolios) this seems to be a light gambling (like buying an occasional scratch card here and then) :) .. and then, there are a number of real investors who have "cracked the code"

for me - I love an occasional scratch card :) .. and, selling new scratch cards :)

Yeah, and funny enough, cracking that code often starts with noticing which “scratch cards” buyers come back for ;)
