What is the best way (foolproof) to see if your site is in Google?

i.e. Nottingham-co-uk.

It's not .. Google.co.uk .. pages from the UK .. search for the URL with double inverted commas "Nottingham.co.uk" = no result .. if you cannot find a name by URL with ".. " then the name is not indexed in Goog ... it should be noted that the name is a coming soon page .. there is no SEO, the title is the URL ... same as most PPC landing pages ...

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&cr=countryUK|countryGB&q="Nottingham.co.uk"&start=10&sa=N

Google is currently undergoing a major update .. see:

http://www.webmasterworld.com/google/ note: if the correct topic fails to resolve click the Google World menu tab ..

This Goog shake up is a major update here to stay for some time to come it will make and break a great many sites many non conforming sites will be wiped out including mass produced duplicate mini stes

.. times are a changing ...

Philip, have a look at Webmaster Tools by Google. It will become your friend for this sort of thing, indexed pages, missing urls, crawl errors etc.

Thanks Ty and others...

Seems I made a shocking mistake - unforgivable really.

I had exactly the same holding page on all my city sites. There was nothing different on them - identical title, description, page content, and Google dumped them in all one fell swoop.

Ty can vouch - there was absolutely nothing showing up in Google at all for some of them - absolutely terrifying!

Now there is a revised holding page on them, Google seems to be slowly bringing them back from the wilderness (phew!)

SEO is the next thing to look into... think I'll start a new thread asking for advice on that!

Congrats, that was a close one!

They do seem to be reappearing - maybe the sheer strength of the names has made a difference - usually when they get dumped they stay dumped!
