So you have a domain insurance-renewal.co.uk and you think you'll post a bunch of affiliate links there, you create a nice page with a good AdUnit from TradeDoubler and you've thought carefully about your headers etc. etc. Now you have a site that is very similar to very many others and I'd hate to think how many domains there are with 'insurance' in the name. The word that people will type in is 'insurance' and they haven't a hope in hell of scrolling as far as your site on Google as you will be beyond page 5. So is there any point?

I think there isn't, even though this is the best time of year for insurance renewals. insurance-renewal.co.uk is still pointed at Sedo but I am hopeful that some of you more experienced peeps will persuade me. Opinions anyone?

Well you could always start an insurance brokerage and do a bit of marketing, work hard to achieve a loyal customer base, build up a good reputation etc

There's no point being on page 5, no, but then, it's all about honing your SEO skills and getting to page 1, maybe on some less competitive terms though.

How long had you been running the site? How much effort did you put into learning SEO?

That was partly my point, there is no point being on page 5 but with so many 'insurance' domains, many just there for the PPC, and added to that the number of insurance company sites, I would have to be very very good to get on to page 1.

I picked up the domain today so my question is in advance of the effort.

I have read about SEO here but thats about it so, yes, I could learn (much) more.

You have achieved the goal I set though as I am inspired to do much more than just park it now. You have implied that with good SEO insurance-renewal.co.uk could actually appear above page 5.

I have wilsons-insurance.co.uk if you want to make an offer? it should be good for 300 visitors a month.. not a lot granted but it's a start

Surely to put a site of any type on your domains has to increase its value a little, admittedly its a long term investment compared to the per click income from parking you might get one or two sales through affiliates but this will probably cover investment whilst registering with all the serach engines and establishing the domain
