I have found a few domains where the .co.uk is available, but the .com is taken and in use. The domains are generic product/service names and are not trademarked. As a made up example, something along the lines of "NottinghamTaxis.co.uk" but "NottinghamTaxis.com" is taken and in use...(thats just a made up example).

Would I be ok to buy the domain and start an affiliate site on it? Or taking it one step further, put a site up for a couple of months and then approach the .com and see if they want to buy it?

Thanks for any advice in advance!

yep geo domains are a good investment and would advise for a newbie ,you can build a site on it and generate an income stream then move onto another town/city and keep adding to your portfolio and would generally be of more value has a portfolio.

good luck with your venture.....

onward and upward

My opinion is that you should be fine from a legal ownership point of view on these names.

Yep agreed with deliajen, shane8960, as it would be a hard case to prove the sole right of a city name and generic service like Nottingham Taxis!

I have 100's of them and feel they are a good investment overall and a safe punt.

Good Luck and if your up for a bit of link promotion just shout ;)

Cheers guys! I had thought generics where ok, but was unsure if there was already a developed site on them where I would stand.
