Hello Everyone,
I have found out what happened regarding the shill bidding on domainlore. As some of you know, my Motorbike was stolen the other day - costing me over £1k, I also took a loan out to pay for some 2 letter domains. I recently had a great offer from a very respected internet marketer to work as a joint venture on one of my domains. Something which I really want to do but I was about to sell the domain when the offer came in. I needed cash to pay back the loan so I either had to sell the domain, or sell the 2 letters. I put 1 of the 2 letters for sale on domainlore and it reached £2,200 but post auction I was accused of shill bidding.
Until now, I didn't know what had happened.
Whilst it wasn't me - it was someone very close to me. They were trying to help me after all I have been through recently (some of you know some of the other bits too) and have just made everything worse, so much worse.
Of course, I have to and will accept total responsibility. Their actions were a direct result of me saying how much I needed this domain to sell for a decent amount. I guess they didn't understand that I was perfectly happy with the £2k it was at towards the end didn't mind it going at that price.
This person is close to me, and I won't name them for fear of Denys naming and shaming them - its just not worth that.
Of course, my online reputation is ruined, as is my real name - he has used my name and it will be echoed over many other tweets, blog posts etc. I am sure that soon a google of name will only show this.
I have about £10k worth of domains, which now sits fairly useless, I will not be able to trade them with resellers, only the occasional end user. Since my domains are mainly for the reseller and developer market, they are rubbish to me now.
I had a great reputation (at least I thought I did) - I worked free for many charities and members of this forum. I worked under rate, I worked hard and I tried to be kind to new members and help people out where I could. I generally got along with everyone (though I had 1 spat that I remember) and tried really hard to be a productive member of the forum.
I made friends here, people I can trust, people I enjoy working with trading with and talking with. Its been a pleasure interacting with all of you!
I really, would not risk all my reputation, the £10k of domains, the friends I have made on this forum for a couple of hundred pounds - if you can't believe that then I don't know what to tell you.
I am sorry this has happened, I feel terrible that I put this person close to me in a position where they felt they had to help me out and I will take full responsibility for their actions.
Goodbye everyone, take care and I wish you all the best.
This is not very fair on Denys or DL as does not give clarity in terms of if you agree with his analysis.
Likewise, you / your close person should send Grant a PM as its his cash at the end of the day that could have been needlessly spent.
It doesn't matter how Denys systems detected it really, I am glad they did.
I am responsible for the perpetrators actions, they did it to help me. The blame lies on my head.
