I offered a domain at £150 back In February and they have decided to come back some four months later wanting it at the same price, well after a few sales this week, I decided to play their game and lowered back to the discount, needed the money at the time back then, £150.

So now they're back replying to my emails - they come out with this peach.

The posh nob thinks he knows it all and is trying it on look;

On confirmation from Nominet that the domain name has been transferred into the name of ......., I will personally arrange for the sum of £150 to be immediately paid electronically by BACS to your bank account.

You will need to contact me for the full details of the transferee which you will need to enter on the transfer document to be submitted to Nominet. It would also be useful if you would let me have a copy of the completed transfer document for our records.

You have my undertaking as a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales that you will receive payment in accordance with the above terms.

Is the undertaking worth the paper it's written on or am I being blagged? because the second paragraph doesn't give me confidence, I don't like blaggers when they aint done the research.

What do you think? I've told them this is all most unusual and I'll think about it.

Cheers

Youre the seller Lee so tell them the way you want to do the deal, noone transfers a domain name to an unknown person before getting the payment. You could always suggest using escrow.com and insist that they pay the fee.

Also, if what he says is genuine it sounds like he (or whoever he represents) can afford to pay more than £150!

Lee, my advice is don't do anything until their money has cleared in your bank account, then and only then transfer the domain to them. I'm never happy giving out bank details for a Swift money transfer as well.

Yes I wanted £500, the £150 was my mistake, I needed money back in Feb to clear debts ready for the move to RO. I aint happy, I may ask for another £150 for the inconvenience.

Thanks, I think they're pulling a fast one, trust a chartered accountant? the amount that get put in prison every year? They must think I'm mad.

With all domain sales we insist on payment before transfer, no exceptions. We have only used Escrow twice, years ago. Now we decline requests to use any escrow service, and no sales lost as a result of this policy.

With purchases we will make payment in advance to known and trusted sellers, otherwise it has to be payment on completion of transfer.

In your case, I think the buyer should pay in advance, with an unsigned copy of the transfer form beforehand if they insist.
