I think xTOPSECRETx should have his own forum on another website.

Agreed, maybe he could set it up at filez.org.uk - I'm close to buying that bloody domain myself just so I never see a sales thread for it ever again!

His tactics are working then. :)

Why say it in one word when you can say it in 50. :)

John Updike

John Updike was, like all of us, a man of contradictions.

He also wrote: "Any activity becomes creative when the doer cares about doing it right, or doing it better."

And he also wrote: "Writers may be disreputable, incorrigible, early to decay or late to bloom, but they dare to go it alone."

So tell me texidriver; where have you dared to go today, except to the depths of ignorance?

I came to this forum with an agenda (to gather support for my stance re: the Nominet EGM) but have stayed and learnt quite a lot. I've seen aspects of the DRS that hadn't occurred to me and seen possible flaws in the transfer process highlighted. I sat next to 'Invincible' at lunch today and he managed to get me to rethink some of my views re:pPC sites and the domains that point to them.

I see all this as healthy communication. So why the antagonism?

sounds constructive to me - i'm confident if people like Invincible are consulted as they always make a lot of sense. I would be even keener to see experienced users of the system promoted to a board level discussion forum - and get paid for their input (we all know nominet can afford it) not just people from the publc paid to make decisions about something they know little about - this is still a specialist market requiring specialist input

Perhaps you should stay a while and read

OB

I've read a lot - and quite a lot of that has been from yourself and Jac. The pair of you are pretty good at giving as good as you get and using more than the average number of words in the process. But Hey! I aint chained to this computer and nobody is forcing me to read anything I don't want to read. So - "No Probs". ;)

Just a quick bit of clarification - PAB members are not paid for their input at any level. We can claim expenses (travel/accommodation/etc) but we are not paid for our time.

John Updike

These comments are directed specifically at texidriver as he seems to feel resentment at my posts on AD.

My comments below are not meant to be offensive but informative; how you take them is your prerogative. The problem with informative information is that it cannot necessarily be restricted to one or two sentences as some of you might wish.

Not everybody agrees with you texidriver and not everybody agrees with me, that's democracy, but we both have (or should have) a right to free speech on any democratic platform. I regard Acorn Domains as just that, a democratic platform, and IMO it's a job well done by Admin for keeping it so without much censorship at all. Personally, I hope the 1530 subscriber figure continues to increase because the free world needs more discussion platforms like this (in any community).

So what kind of reputation does Acorn Domains want?

It was suggested to me by private email this morning (and these are not my words they are the emailer's) that; "Your audience on Acorn is largely made up of spotty brats in university halls of residence whose usual method of communication is txt spk. Most of them simply can't cope with your reasoned arguments if those arguments take up more than three sentences."

I personally wouldn't be so harsh, but if this is the kind of reputation Acorn Domains wants to achieve, then I guess some of you really are what the emailer suggests.

The point I would like to make to you texidriver, is that I do not invade other threads on Acorn Domains, only those where logic dictates there is a question that needs to be answered from a Nominet or PAB perspective. I try to do that stating the facts clearly, and it takes longer than the average 'yes' or 'no' answer.

At present you have an 8 to 1 majority in your poll but as I have already mentioned the word democracy above; from a democratic viewpoint; do you really think that is representative? If it was 1529 to 1 or even 1,000 to 1 then I'd say you had a point, but it isn't.

The point of this olive branch is exactly the point Hazel Pegg made in her message at 8:37pm last night.

We want the reputation of a fairly run forum that offers good insights to domainers on the UK and increasingly, the European aftermarket for domain names.

Some people will have personality clashes but I hope everyone here, including the "spotty brats in university halls of residence" are adult enough to get over it and get some value from contributing here beyond throwing mud at each other.

Have your say, but please do not let this thread degenerate into a slagging match or I will be forced to get my Admin stick out!

I agree wholeheartedly with this post.

Texidriver...... even if you don't agree with what they say all the time at least Hazel and James take time to post here.

Nominet needs PAB members like them to encourage debate and stand up for policy that is wrong....... like the Nominet board changing the Mission Statement without asking anyone or the EGM vote www.notnominet.org.uk !

Some PAB members don't even bother to post on Nomsteer never mind here.

I personally think that a dedicated Nominet/PAB - Policy/Feedback/Suggestion section on this forum would be a good idea…

Thread for suggestions, thread for gripes, thread for feedback, etc, etc. ;)

As far as I see it, it’s the grass roots stuff that needs changing, so…

With a bit of luck and a ‘fair’ wind, we ‘might’ just make some headway. :)

Side Note: It’s a shame that certain Nominet ‘well paid’ individuals do not seem quite as ‘proactive’ as their ‘unpaid’ PAB counterparts.
