I let drop gets picked up by someone else - even the .me.uk's....

First rule of fight club, don't check the ones you let drop. Otherwise your one step away from Noel Edmonds and the "I told you you shouldn't have opened that box". syndrome.

logically it must mean one of two things - either i've made a mistake or someone else has... it's like being hounded by vultures...

And your right, I won't open anymore boxes..

A lot of mine get picked up too - but you know what, if you meant to let them drop, then you did so for a reason...

As long as it's not a mistake I'm not too bothered.

The renewal fees on hundreds of unused domains, is too much. I've now got a policy where I'm starting to develop everything - they each have to at least pay for themselves...

That's the best way in these leaner times. Sad thing is, a lot go undeveloped, so when renewal time comes around, you've no idea whether renewing them is actually worth it or not. The earlier in the 2 year cycle they're developed the better to see what the roi is, otherwise all you end up doing is topping up Nominet's bottom line for no good reason!

Very wise words.

Same here....I let them drop for a reason, they either get no traffic or they don't pay for themselves. As was said subsequently though; one mans junk is another treasure.

I've noticed quite a few of mine getting caught by certain catchers on here.

Maybe I should set up a "dropping" forum or system, so that they are offered to members here before they go into the Nominet drop queue.

That way existing owners get a last chance of making a sale, and members get a chance to buy them at a good price without any risk.

How could we automate something so that they get grouped by drop date? I could perhaps do this as a sub-site but linked to member credentials here and only allow certain members access?

I own drops.co.uk if that helps ;)

Isn't that really want the "bargain basement" section is for? Maybe you could set up a "due to drop" section where members can have the domain for free if they cover the transfer cost.

I own dropped.co.uk, and not doing anything with it...

I don't have a credit card on heart, so all the domains I have with them will drop ;)

for example, Poplar is an area in London, and I think Poplar.co.uk was one of my latest to be suspended...

Well yes but I was thinking of something that automatically tracks the domains to their eventual drop date, so that people can bag a bargain the day before for example.
