now it doesnt even rank in the top 100!! I hate you google! how can this just change so much?
Dropping over 100 places??!! stupid, now i dont know what to do to get it back!

Yep, happened to me on 3 of my sites on October 14th.

It's finally made me focus solely on a couple of quality sites rather than lots of quick wins

Me too!

Had a site between 3-5th position on page 1 since I put it up around 4 months ago, 19th of this month it lost about 40 places?

Went back in and played with it so will have to wait and see what happens next.

Mine have been jumping around regularly since August if they aren't well established 1yr+ with a decent backlink profile you won't see stable rankings (IMO) particularly if they are dynamic/automated

all that pissing what i have put into them for nothing!
Cheers google!

yea Google should be privilage to have me about lol
Im joking before I start everyone off!

I believe this is Google dance. This usually happens when Google sees that there were big changes on your site (e.g. link building) than what you usually does. If you been building your links properly or increasing your links then expect to have higher rankings in 2-3 days. Don't hate Google for now, just wait for more days and check where your site is ranking again.

This is not the google, dance, i have seen this before, I have just been completely taken off google and all its buddys like aol for all search terms i was ranking for.

The site is not old, only only 4 months old same with domain, and in that time I havent left it alone, always adding to it, it did its google dance and then settle for the last month, so I start building some links , nothing crazy only a few a day, is there anything I can do to find out why and fix it?

try searching this on Google:

site:www.yourdomain.com

If you can still see your domain then it means that you are still in business. If not, then you have been completely removed by Google.

Yea I have check that, but the number gets less and less every day, was over 600 now down to 100

Might be Google deciding which pages add value and discarding the ones that don't.. If the site is feed driven which I suspect with that many pages then you will have duplicate content and a few broken links to contend with.

Patience is the key..

Tricky1 is right! This is one of the effects of Google dance. But knowing that your site is still there is a good news. What you can do is continue to build your backlinks then submit your site to search engines. When was the last time you submitted? And how do you regularly create new contents to your site?

I believe you said that your site and domain still 4 months and you already have 600 indexed pages. It could also be that you stop creating new contents to your site that's why the search engines are no longer crawling it.

Yea I know,
Its hard to be patience when you was about to break into page one then completely go from everything, I hate google, everything is fine in bing and yahoo, but that doesnt mean anything.
The whole site was completey rewritten a month or so ago with orignal content, and the 600 pages were from a csv file, its a hotel site, so all content on those is the same as laterooms and whoever else is using it, I did create 2 new pages the other day after this happened so hopefully that will help, I only submit my site to google once, resubmit the sitemap every time something changes tho. I guess I will have to wait and see, if nothing happens im guessing I will have to start over again.

Hi Chippy,

If your serious about the website, dont give up!

Like somone said this could well be google sandboxing you, however from previous experiences it normally happens a lot sooner than it did for you.

Use google webmaster tools (if you dont already) to make sure there are no errors with your site that may be causing this drop is search enging position. You will be able to identify any duplicate keywords, titles content etc.

Another thing, Dont put all your eggs in one basket and rely just on google to bring you traffic. Although google is far more desirable, there are other search engines out there. Ive found yahoo / bing offer a great source of traffic for newer sites, especially keyword rich domain names.

Keep up the good work, focus on traffic from multiple sources then when you finally start to climb in google you will be laughing.

Thanks for your advice and to everyone else also,
Im not giving up at all! This was my site affiliate site and is my baby lol, I have been check out webmaster tools and things in there are better than they have ever been, but yet the site is worse off. there is a copy of crawl errors on pages that I have deleted as the pages dont exist anymore but thats about it really, only other issue is on my paging pages with duplicate, but as I said that been fine so far so wouldnt of thought that would be the case.

Well I think im second in yahoo and bing or my keyword and have been for a long time, BUT on yahoo and bing that doesnt bring in alot of traffic at all, I think I will give it another week, if I dont see it start returning I will gut the site and get a fresh lot of content back in there on all the pages and make a few changes.
So any content writes out there will have a big job soon maybe so get your prices in!! lol

Chippy. I had around 20 dynamic product driven sites which I've learnt a hard lesson from. I went from around 40,000 product pages in total and ended up testing different methods on each site of basically how to best remove all these product pages until I have something better in it's place.

What I would recommend from my findings (product sites):-

- start small (around 20-40 pages)
- drip feed pages/products (otherwise you'll be bang in trouble) i.e. introduce a small % of new pages every day
- I used the rel-canonical tag (like Wordpress uses) for pagination
- pattern my sites took was peaked in month X, were all slapped in X+2 months, X+4 months I am getting back to full recovery
- if you are going for an exact match domain, then get the exact match ranking first - before you go introducing tonnes of dynamic pages to the index.
- if you need to show users affiliate/duplicate content then put this in a category/folder which you can robots.txt off

Hey, that's great news! Any chance of a few pointers (in general terms) as to what you decided to implement that improved things for you?
