Today is your last chance to provide Nominet feedback on the changes to the Registrar Agreement.

This forum is littered with threads from new and old domain owners who have had trouble with the way Big Registrars manage there domains.

Nominet are about to let 123-reg, 1and1 and the other big boys transfer your domains into there own name should you forget to renew within 30 days if you don't trust them to resolve issues or not to charge exorbitant fees when this happens then please fill in this very short form and drop nominet an email telling them so.

Act now before its to late

Conflict of interests.

Simply put, the registrars will now have a clear incentive that you lose/forget your valuable domains. For instance too many people unfortunately rely on the E-mail reminders to renew their domains in time. They shouldn't of course, but that's how it is. Now it would be 'nice' if some reminders (ahem selectively) failed to reach the intended recipients because they were caught as spam or something like that.

In the case of .com I have over the years witnessed registrars like enom or netsol quietly repossessing valuable domains. These names did not even made it to namejet or clubdrop (in the early days). And yes, some of those names found a new home. There was money exchanged definitely, but the original registrant will never see a dime.

What happens behind the scenes in this industry is sometimes quite shady.

A good response to one of David's minimalist interrogatives. I'm sure that all interested parties will keep a close watch on what the higher-level registrars do and try to get away with.

There are a lot of people in the .uk domain community who will keep an eye on this, ready to cry "foul" if there's any monkey business seen to be going on. Despite some criticisms of the board that have been aired ad nauseam on this forum (and some of which I agree with), I'm sure Nominet will police the proposed 60-day 'registrant alert' window, and investigate any complaints promptly which are brought to their attention.

I think Nominet will run a tighter ship going forward than they have in the past. More to lose once .uk is up and running, plus they'll have the budget to put more staff on the compliance/verification teams. It's in their best interest to have a smoothly functioning, credible UK namespace.

That's not incompatible with policy changes that will help/hurt one or other interest group - I'm talking mainly about active enforcement of terms, rules etc. once such policies have been enacted.
